At the Greater Boston chapter of Blacks In Government we honor our members who have passed on as a show of respect and appreciation for their lives and service.
Janice Elaine Melton (1946 - 2005)

Miss Janice Elaine Melton was born in Boston, Massachusetts where she attended public schools and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia. She later received her Master's degree in Communication from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts.

After serving for a time at the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters, she worked at the White House and Congressional Affairs public information offices. She was nationally recognized for her outstanding service.

She was a lifetime member of Blacks In Government and served as Communications & Public Relations Chairperson for the Region One council as well as the Greater Boston Chapter. She is dearly missed.



Claudia Emerson Smith (1940 - 2003)

Mrs. Claudia Emerson Smith was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana where she attended public schools. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Institutional Management from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama.

Mrs. Smith was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Medical Specialist Corp where she served from 1961 to 1964. During her last twenty five years, she worked at the U.S. Department of Agricultural – Food and Nutrition Services in Boston, Massachusetts.

As a lifetime and chartered member of the Greater Boston Chapter of Blacks In Government, she served in numerous capacities, including Executive Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. She is dearly missed.
